I saw guttermouth on friday. i have loved this band since high school and they did not dissapoint. the best gig i've seen in ages. total abuse, total disrespect, awesome stage presence and sound. i have a nice big bruise on my chest from getting punched by some meathead during 1,2,3, slam. so much fun. guttermouth are the kings of punk in 2009. nofx and bad religion eat guttermouths shit. this is musical monkey. you should probably already know how good this is.

one of the best albums this year is free from earache. their first was good, this, my friends, is a riff party. fast, tight, awesome lyrics, near perfect for what it is. and that, my friends is thrash metal. Gama bomb are from ireland. they write songs about some of my favourite things. zombies, ninjas, witches, mummies and robots. cooler than you. for all you posers who think new thrash is a joke. raddest band. top 5 of 09 easy. well played gama bombers, well played. top of the pile. free is good.

Here is a band you need to hear. Sounds like some kind of a folksy-pirate-sea-shanty-type thing with a real punk vibe throughout. Anyways, the band is called Blackbird Raum, and they are from Santa Cruz in the states. I always used to pick Santa Cruz as my sponsor in california games. They busk and play on the street a fair bit, which is cool. I really really like this band. Highly Recommended. They have a new CD out as well, I can't wait to have it. Do yourself a favour, clowns.

Just got home from buying the recent Violator CD, and it fucking jams. Great energy, Great sound, but most of all, great RIFFS. Violator CHOP. Which got me thinking about the state of thrash at the moment. It seems to me that every man and his dog has a strong hatred towards the new thrash "trend" if you wanna call it that. Its almost become the new nu-metal, if you will. Which makes me kinda sad, because ive always loved thrash first, since '99 (hardly a popular time for thrash), and now its become a bit of a joke. I personally think its due to the popularity of certain new thrash bands that suck. For example, Bonded by blood, who stole the title from arguably the best album in thrash history, and labeled their amazinly boring band after it. Or Evile or Blood Tsunami, claiming to be oh-so old school and oh-so thrash who also suck. There seems to be a hundred of these bands popping up a week. But amonst the new thrash ranks, there are quite a few really shredding bands, and its quite refreshing to hear some raging thrash breathing new life into my beloved genre. Bands like Violator, Toxic Holocaust, Witchtrap, Adrenicide and... wait for it.... the dreaded Municipal Waste (seriously, great guitars and good fun), are producing some top quality jams at the moment. So, while i prefer the REAL old school, i am quite glad for the new wave, for giving me some sweet new thrash to mosh my house to. Let the haters hate, what do they know anyway. Theres always been shitty thrash, it just seems like theres more of it nowadays... at least its not like black metal is today, how lame... Sweating on the new Slayer and Heathen Albums by the way...

A Battle Of Epic Scales

Recently, i had the pleasure of watching one of the highlights of cinematical history with a bunch of my mates, well three if you count our other purchases, namely the timeless classics, frankenhooker and c.h.u.d. II, but im talking about Boa Vs. Python, billed as "A Battle of EPIC Scales!" ha ha, get it? so we knew immediately that this was going to rule. Basically heres a rundown of the story (spoiler inclued, sorry but it had to be done). Basically some twit decides it would be a wise business venture to transport an 80 foot reticulated python to the good ol' U.S. of A. FOOL! It escapes, of course and goes on a massive killing spree, leaving mutilated people everywhere. Our Heoes, Dr. Emmet and Monica, manage to track down a 70 foot boa constrictor named Betty, who they feel will be able to deal with the mischevious python and bad-guy Broddick. Much mirth and hijinx ensue until, after pretty much everybody in the film is dead or maimed, the two snakes battle it out in a crowded nightclub, where they both happen to stumble across some train tracks, get hit by a train and explode in a massive ball of flames. AWESOME!

The band Voivod also features an 80 foot reticulated python.. the comparisons are endless. observe....
